Teaching

Courses, theses, and Softwarepraktikum topics offered by the High-Performance Scientific Computing Lab at the University of Augsburg.

You can find the list of courses for the current and next semester below.

Bachelor/master thesis and Softwarepraktikum

We continuously offer bachelor and master theses across our research areas, from numerical simulation and high-performance computing to scientific machine learning and encrypted scientific computing. Supervision is available in German or English. You are welcome to propose your own topic, or to be assigned one if you do not have a specific subject in mind. Of course, you can also do your Software Lab (“Softwarepraktikum”) with us. If you are interested, reach out to one of the research staff members or send an email to Michael Schlottke-Lakemper.

Examples of previously assigned thesis topics
  • Efficient secure SVM inference with homomorphic encryption (2026)
  • Offloading the Discontinuous Galerkin Method to GPUs in Julia (2024)
  • Stable high-order simulations of tropospheric phenomena (2023)
  • Simulation of the moist Euler equations with precipitation (2022)
  • Robust and self-learning shock capturing with artificial neural networks (2022)
  • Perturbation kinetic equations for turbulence simulations (2022)
  • Octree-based AMR on cubed sphere grids with discontinuous Galerkin methods (2022)
  • Non-reflecting boundary conditions for computational aeroacoustics based on artificial neural networks (2022)
  • Deep learning-based boundary conditions for computational aeroacoustics (2021)
  • Shock capturing with artificial neural networks (2021)
  • High-order numerical methods with shock capturing (2020)

A finished thesis also has to be submitted digitally, following the thesis submission guidelines. If you have questions, talk to your advisor.
